TEACHER EDUCATION
Dorset Enterprises arranged and supervised the placement of student teachers who wished to complete their internship (teaching practicum) in the classrooms of New Zealand primary or secondary schools. Global Student Teaching is a program now managed by Educators Abroad in collaboration with the University of Minnesota-Morris, Morris MN 56267 (http://www.globalst.org ). Dorset Enterprises was the agency that acted for GST in New Zealand between 1987 and 2007.
The four hundred Student Teachers who enrolled in the Global Student Teaching Program spent between ten and fifteen weeks at a New Zealand school, and often found time for tourism before, during or after the assignment. Most of the visitors boarded with families associated with the host school.
If, during the trainee’s time in the school, evidence of satisfactory standards of professional competence and behaviour was demonstrated, then the Student Teacher could apply to be licensed to teach by their authorising agency in their home country, state or province.
